    Why You Need Amber Lighting In The Evening

    Blue blocking non-bluelight emitting light chart sleep

    During the day time, if you intend to be awake and alert, you want to get as much day light as possible...particularly in the morning. This signals to your body it is time to suppress the production of melatonin and wake up to be focused, energized, and alert.

    However, in the evening, assuming you want to go to sleep in a few hours...you want to limit your exposure to bright, white light for all the reasons mentioned above. It suppresses the natural production of melatonin in our body. Instead, we want to signal to our body that it's time to wind down for the day and get ready for sleep. In the event that we need lighting in the evening hours, ideally we want to switch over to a warm, low color temperature (1600K) light which lacks blue/white light.

    In short, to be awake and alert, we want bright white/blue light. To get ready to sleep, we want darkness or dimly light, amber colored lighting.

    I got this light to be able to read at night and not disturb my partner or ruin my night vision. I however have been using it to get around at night with my newborn. I coup it to the side of the bassinet when I have to get up at night it's right there. The clip opens wide and can fit on a variety of surface depths. The head of the light is the switch and it's easy to turn on without much hassle. It has 3 light settings that start with the lightest and go brighter. I find that perfect for nighttime use not having to deal with the brightest setting first. Also had been great for reading. Good product so far and the rechargeable feature is another plus. Highly recommend

    I did a good deal of research before buying this, maybe too much, but I take book lights very seriously.

    This one is lightweight, provides three different intensities of amber light, and seems to hold a charge quite well (I've been running on one charge for about 10 days now). I've not had it long, but I am satisfied with my purchase, find it much less disturbing than the "mighty bright" book light I was using previously, and can recommend this as definitely worth the money.

    That said, there are two reasons I'm giving it four instead of five stars:

    1 - I found this turns on very easily while I'm carrying it in my purse or backpack. This isn't a huge issue, but it is annoying and does use up the battery.

    2 - Turning this on or off, or switching between levels of brightness, happens with a click that, while satisfying, is loud enough to wake a light sleeper. This is an issue for anyone wanting to use this to read while their bed partner or roommate is asleep. Mind you it's not terrifying loud, but it is a solid click - and you have cycle through from turning it on, through three levels, to get to the off position, so it's numerous clicks.

    Other than these two relatively minor issues, this is a great light. The issues I've listed are not deal-breakers, but I thought they were useful observations that might help some shoppers decide between this and another light.

    This is seriously the best book light EVER!
    First time I bought it was 2 years ago in just the amber lighting. After 2 years of using it literally every single night for about an hour a night the charger doesn’t charge right anymore. There might just be dust/debris in it but I can’t get it out. But I’d like to add I honestly don’t remember the last time I charged it and it still turns on! So the charge last an insanely long time!! But it’s definitely getting much dimmer so I had to do something about it.
    So I went to buy a new one and see they now have one with amber, red, or the combo of the 2. I mainly use this light to read my son his bedtime books before he goes to bed so I obviously jumped on the combo light!
    It came today and it’s an even bigger game changer than the 1st one!! Wow!
    I love it so much I’m going to order 2 more as gifts for my kids teachers for teacher appreciation week next week!
    10/10 recommend!!

    I love this light. I bought two of them: one for my bedside table and, one to carry around my house like a Victorian governess with a candelabra.

    It’s bright enough to gently light a whole room, dim enough not to mess with sleep. The battery life is amazing— I used my Hooga as the only lighting for a 24 hour performance art piece, and it lasted the whole time. The gooseneck and clip make it easy to direct the light, and the colors are rich. My Hoogas are now a favorite tool for taking nighttime portrait photography, if you know what I mean.

    My only note is it’s a little bright to actually read by. But with a some imagination there’s nothing your Hooga can’t do. Best $15 I ever spent.

    I like that it has different shades of brightness. I like that it is rechargeable!! I like the way it fits on your book and you can swivel it around so it isn't In your partners face if you're reading in bed. What I don't like about it...can't think of a thing. Except maybe a travel case.

    Purchased this a few years ago, hardly ever have to charge it, super easy to use love the fact it has dim levels, the yellow light (blue light) as apposed to the white light is much more calming and soothing to my eyes, would definately recommend this, stand out performance.
