The Leymebamba Museum is renowned for its significant collection of funerary bundles, or mummies, and their funerary offerings. In addition to these historical artifacts, the museum also provides information on the local flora, including orchids, and fauna. An exhibition of quipus, an ancient Andean system of record keeping, found in the region is also on display.
The collection of the Leymebamba Museum includes 261 mummies and over 200 funerary objects. Most of these artifacts were discovered in the Condors Lagoon during an archaeological project. This impressive collection provides a unique insight into the funerary practices and beliefs of the ancient Chachapoyas people.
