Recorded the complete works for cello and piano by Beethoven! The seven variations on the theme of "The Men Who Know Love" from Mozart's "The Magic Flute" are performed on both days. The duo made a session recording of Beethoven's complete works in 1977, but this is a live recording from November 6 & 7, 1978, a different source! This is a masterful performance by Starker in his mid-50s, when he was at his most productive as a performer. Starker fell in love with the talented Buchbinder, and they have performed together since Buchbinder was in his 20s. In this live performance, the two musicians play in perfect harmony. The music is extremely dense as it was recorded in the previous year's session.Starker's cello, with its unique narrative style, and Buchbinder's piano, with its sprightliness.
