Abstract
A solar panel (20) configured to reduce contaminant accumulation thereon, including a surface (22) adapted to harvest solar energy; and a vortex - inducing generator (26) including chevron- shaped features (28) disposed across at least a portion of the surface (22) to reduce contaminant accumulation thereon by causing air flow passing over the surface (22) to remove at least some contaminants deposited thereon and/or keeping particles entrained in the air flow to reduce deposition on the surface (22). A method of passively cleaning a solar panel (20) includes providing the solar panel (20), and positioning the solar panel (20) such that the leading edge is oriented to intercept a prevailing wind direction. A solar array includes a plurality of the solar panels (20), wherein each solar panel (20) is positioned such that the leading edge is oriented to intercept a prevailing wind direction.
