Definitions
- the invention relates to a protective helmet for motorcyclists or the like of the type mentioned in the preamble of claim 1, which is generally known.
- a motorcyclist usually keeps his head tilted more or less deeply at different vehicle speeds for aerodynamic or habitual reasons, whereby of course his protective helmet also takes on correspondingly different inclinations.
- his protective helmet also takes on correspondingly different inclinations.
- this results in changed air flow angles on the protective helmet and thus different sized air resistances.
- the air flow acting on the rear of the helmet tears off considerably below the highest helmet curvature area, as a result of which an air flow flowing over the rear of the helmet and towards the lower edge of the helmet has been formed.
- the object of the invention is therefore to design a protective helmet of the type mentioned at the outset with simple means in such a way that the air may stall in the area of the greatest helmet width largely independently of the particular head posture of the motorcyclist.
- the air flow acting on the protective helmet at its upper area is separated at the highest curvature area of the helmet tip, that is to say in the area of an inflow direction which is approximately tangential to the latter.
- This air flow which flows approximately horizontally due to the designs according to the invention, is combined with the air flow flowing obliquely up and back over the shoulders of the motorcyclist and with the air flow flowing up the back of the motorcycle in the area of the helmet tip - the individual air flows acting as "force vectors" to a certain extent, so that the neck area of the motorcycle rider is relieved of the wind pressure comparatively considerably by the confluence of the air currents, which is shifted towards the top of the helmet.
- a very expedient embodiment of the invention consists (feature of claim 2) of forming the elevations and / or depressions as transverse ribs or transverse grooves which run transversely or obliquely to the direction of flow. These can also be arrow-shaped, where they converge in the area of the helmet symmetry plane.
- transverse ribs and transverse grooves have a sinusoidal cross-sectional profile (feature of claim 3).
- the helmet surface can also be roughened in the area of the helmet tip by a plurality of approximately hemispherical knobs (feature of claims 8 and 9) or even only with an irregular surface structure, which is formed, for example, by a large number of grains.
- the motorcycle driver's protective helmet 1 shown in FIG. 1 is designed as an integral helmet and has a viewing opening 2 which can be covered by a viewing window 3. This is mounted on two bearing bolts 4 engaging in the helmet shell 10 so that they can be swiveled up and down.
- the protective helmet 1 has in the area of the helmet tip 6 a number of elevations and / or depressions which protrude beyond the helmet surface 10 'or are set back from it.
- the elevations each consist of transverse ribs 7, while the depressions shown to the left of the break line are each designed as transverse grooves 8; grooves 70 are formed between the transverse ribs 7, while webs 80 each remain between the transverse grooves 8.
- transverse ribs 7 projecting only slightly beyond the helmet surface 10 ′ can also be provided with transverse grooves 8 set back from it.
- transverse ribs 7 and / or transverse grooves 8 extend transversely or obliquely to the inflow direction a and extend over the helmet tip 6 to approximately in the region of the upper edge 2 'of the viewing opening 2. It is also conceivable that the transverse ribs 7 and / or transverse grooves 8 each run in an arrow shape, where they converge in a plan view of the helmet tip 6 in the area of the helmet symmetry plane.
- the transverse ribs 7 and transverse grooves 8 each have a rectangular cross-sectional profile, their height b being approximately 1-2 mm, while their width c measuring approximately 4-8 mm; the grooves 70 formed between the transverse ribs 7 and webs 80 remaining between the transverse grooves 8 each have approximately the same cross-sectional profile of the transverse ribs 7 and transverse grooves 8.
- the Cross ribs 7 and cross grooves 8 for example, also have a trapezoidal or ridge-shaped cross-sectional profile.
- the transverse ribs 7 'and transverse grooves 8' can also have a sinusoidal cross-sectional profile.
- the individual waves have a height b 'of approximately 0.25-1.5 mm, while the wavelength d is approximately 1-50 mm.
- the transverse ribs 7 and 7 ' can also be designed in sections.
- One transverse rib section expediently covers a gap in the adjacent row of transverse ribs 7, 7 '.
- a plurality of approximately hemispherical knobs which have a diameter of approximately 1-14 mm and a height of approximately 0.5-2 mm, can also protrude from the helmet surface 10 'in the area of the helmet tip 6.
- the individual knobs are arranged in rows and at the same distance from each other, the individual rows of knobs running transversely or obliquely to the direction of flow a.
- the knobs of a row are expediently each in a gap with the knobs of the adjacent row of knobs.
- transverse ribs 7 and 7 'or transverse grooves 8 and 8' or the rows of knobs are set back by the dimension e, which is approximately 50-80 mm, from the upper edge 2 'of the viewing opening 2 and extend over the helmet tip 6 over an angular range ⁇ -60 ° -100 °.
- the air flow acting on the protective helmet 1 in the region of the helmet tip 6 becomes independent of the respective inclination position of the protective helmet 1 in the one designated by f Area - if not already in front of this - is separated and continues to flow behind the protective helmet 1 approximately horizontally, as illustrated by the arrows labeled a '.
Abstract
